With the plan passed by the House, Mississippi would become the 10th state in the nation to avoid a personal income tax on wages, joining economic powerhouse states like Texas, Florida and neighboring Tennessee. Eliminating the personal income tax would position the Magnolia State for income growth, job growth and population growth in the years ahead. In addition to achieving the long-time conservative goal of eliminating the income tax, the plan also does the essential work of keeping spending growth limited to ensure fiscal responsibility. While more work needs to be done to get income tax elimination across the finish line, I applaud state legislators in Mississippi for their incredible efforts thus far.

Committee to Unleash Prosperity

For decades, I’ve worked with state legislators to eliminate the tax that is the single greatest threat to state economic growth and prosperity—the income tax. My hat goes off to Mississippi Speaker of the House Philip Gunn and his colleagues for their bold plan to make Mississippi more prosperous through income tax elimination and fiscal discipline.

America is watching. Mississippi has a once in a generation opportunity to re-position itself for economic growth.
