We are big fans of billionaire media mogul John Malone – a real free-market guy. He’s also a major stakeholder in Discovery – which recently merged with WarnerMedia in a $43 billion mega-media deal. WarnerMedia owns CNN which, under its previous owners saw its viewership plunge by 50 percent as it moved from the middle to the hard left.
What does Malone – a director of CNN’s new owner – have in mind for the future of cable news?
“I would like to see CNN evolve back to the kind of journalism that it started with, and actually have journalists, which would be unique and refreshing… I do believe good journalism could have a role in this future portfolio that Discovery-TimeWarner’s going to represent.”
Malone says for this to work CNN will need to start hiring “actual journalists.” What a concept!
