Another breakthrough: The World Health Organization (WHO) announced that it’s time for countries to lift or loosen all their COVID travel restrictions related to COVID-19. Within a day of that news, Britain announced testing requirements for vaccinated arriving travelers will end on February 11.
WHO’s International Emergency Committee has concluded that the restrictions are not effective in suppressing international spread” of COVID. The rapid spread of omicron “demonstrates the ineffectiveness of such measures.” Remarkably, the WHO committee actually took note of the costs and unintended consequences of travel lockdowns:
“Such restrictions do not provide added value and continue to contribute to the economic and social stress experienced by citizens.”
Airline experts are reporting a surge of ew bookings and predict that International travel could reach 90 percent of pre-pandemic levels in a matter of months.
