It’s been over a year now that members of Congress have been allowed to not show up for work at the Capitol and instead phone it in. Literally.

Now even with the virus in rapid retreat, Speaker Nancy stuck her head out and saw her own shadow, so she is ordering seven more weeks of proxy voting.

Proxy voting was a gambit from the beginning. What kind of message does it send to Americans when even their elected leaders are afraid to show up to work? Worse, many of the sequestered congressional critters dialed in their proxy votes and then rushed out to attend fundraisers, or go on vacation, or eat out to dinner. Now long after most everybody else has gone back to work, it’s time for Congress to do the same.
