Maybe Reagan was wrong.
He once famously declared:
“No government ever voluntarily reduces itself in size. So governments’ programs, once launched, never disappear. A government bureau is the nearest thing to eternal life we’ll ever see on this earth.”
But last week’s Trump rescission package killed $9 billion of oinkers in the budget. Congress disconnected the life-support system for nearly two dozen programs whose mission in life – if there ever was one – long ago ended.
Here’s a list of the cancellations and the money saved. Let’s hope this is the start of a cultural shift in Washington with Congress ending federal programs rather than starting them.
Reagan must be smiling!
