Minnesota Spends $45,000 Per Person In Poverty

And they are rapidly approaching Massachusetts for the dubious rank of being the most profligate welfare-spending state. From the Minnesota-based think tank Center for the American Experiment comes this useful 50-state chart of newly released Census data for 2023:

The mean and the median are both north of $25,000 per person in poverty – which is substantially higher than the federal poverty level!  Something is seriously wrong when states are spending as much as three times the poverty level in welfare spending without meaningfully reducing poverty.
