America Falling Behind on Nuclear Energy

If the latest tally from the IAEA is accurate, then the total number of reactors under construction in the United States is zero. This doesn’t include the restart of Three Mile Island.

It also doesn’t include reactor 3 and 4 at the Alvin W. Vogtle Electric Generating Plant in Waynesboro, Georgia that opened last year.

But we have fallen behind in new plants:

The World Nuclear Association is tracking 21 proposed US reactors but they are not confident that any of them will begin operation within 15 years.  We hope they’re wrong.  Especially in this new era of small nuclear reactors – that are much safer than the large plants – we need nuclear as part of our electric power generation given the massive new demands.
