Former California High Speed Funds: Repurposing for Transit Safety

The Trump Administration has announced its intention to redirect $2.4 billion funding previously awarded to the California High-Speed Rail Authority for fiscal year 2024 to its new National Railroad Partnership Program.

The Trump Administration has now clawed back approximately $4 billion from the high-speed rail, noting its unprecedented cost escalation that has spiraled out of control.

The present “Phase 1” plan for the initial San Francisco to Los Angeles line could cost as much as $135 billion, more than four times projections.

The new program will focus on safety and end DEI requirements.
