A groundbreaking study released by Unleash Prosperity Now finds the U.S. economy would gain by $180 trillion over the next decade were we able to find a cure for cancer. The study calls for a White House Operation Warp Speed for Cancer.
The study by UP economists Stephen Moore and Tomas Philipson, one of the leading health industry analysts, estimates that eliminating cancer mortality over the next decade could generate roughly $15,000 per American per year – or about $39,000 per household annually – through longer lives, higher productivity, and stronger public finances.
This table summarizes the findings:

Cancer is projected to claim more than 30 million American lives between 2030 and 2064, resulting in the loss of hundreds of millions of life-years. This research measures the full value of preventing those losses — using the same economic methods the federal government applies when evaluating major national policies.
Under a less ambitious scenario – reducing cancer deaths by 80% over 20 years – would deliver around $130 trillion in economic gains or approximately $10,500 per person per year. The findings make clear that continued innovation, research, and private-sector breakthroughs in cancer treatment and prevention are not just medical priorities, they are among the most valuable investments America can make.
Steve Moore explained the study on Fox News:
