Economist Paul Krugman is back with his non sequiturs in his new Substack column. Here’s his latest sage analysis:
Biden had the misfortune of being president when there was a large jump in prices, a jump that was out of his control and happened around the world.
This is like saying Babe Ruth was lucky that every time he came to the plate, a home run was about to be hit.
Apparently inflation just “happens.”
Except that back in 2021 Krugman led a gang of prominent economists who famously predicted that Biden’s massive spending binge would not be inflationary. Later he had to admit he was totally wrong.
Also, why is it that in Trump’s last months in office before Biden’s term started, inflation was below 2% and then surged to 9%? Even with the Iran conflict going on and the rise in oil prices, the inflation rate today is BELOW the average rate during Biden’s four year budget blowout.
Could it be that the Bidenflation wasn’t “out of his control,” but was ignited by his $4 trillion spend and borrow plan?
