The EU, which we supported way back when, has become instead a big government, climate change crazy, tax hike cartel. Back in June, JP Morgan Chase CEO Jamie Dimon warned that Europe is trapped in a high-tax, regulatory model and falling further behind the U.S.

It’s a club that no one should want to join. So we are pleased to report that on Sunday, Iceland voted 53% to 47% to not even begin talks on becoming an EU member.

Smart decision. The nation of 400,000 people has become one of the most prosperous in the world and a majority didn’t see why it should be shackled to a European superstate that could dilute its sovereignty and control over its fishing waters.

EU backers also made big mistakes. They were convinced that Donald Trump’s rhetoric about annexing nearby Greenland would panic Icelanders into embracing Europe, but that argument bombed. Iceland remains a NATO member and its 75-year-old defense treaty with the US is secure.
