Alaska’s Ranked-Choice Cheating

We’ve warned of the dangers of ranked-choice voting (RCV) – where voters rank the candidates on the ballot rather than choose just ONE.

Maine and Alaska have adopted variations of it along with cities such as New York, Seattle, and Portland, Ore.

Last week, an exposé in the New York Times revealed that, in Alaska, the campaign of Democratic Senate nominee Mary Peltola had, with her knowledge, scoured the state for bogus candidates in order to confuse voters and dilute the vote for GOP incumbent Dan Sullivan.

The Times story explains that “Alaska’s voting system makes it especially easy to add spoilers to the ballot.”

Democrats deviously conspired to find  an Alaskan with the name Dan Sullivan, now known as “Decoy Dan,” to run as a third candidate against the incumbent GOP senator Dan Sullivan. The decoy is named Dan J. Sullivan and the senator is Dan S. Sullivan.

Quick, does anyone know the middle initial of either of your two home state Senators?  Neither do most Alaskans.

It’s a dirty trick and everyone knows it, but Democrats are so lustful of power almost none have denounced the ploy and many have gone on TV and twisted themselves into pretzels trying to defend this “danger to democracy.”
