To paraphrase Ronald Reagan: “Well, there they go again!”

AOC accused Republicans of “Voting to starve babies. The disabled. The poor.” She claimed their Medicaid reforms were “robbing people” and “gut[ting] what is left of the health care and social safety net.”

Wait. Spending $1.2 trillion a year on poverty programs is “starving” them?

The Washington Post just published a look at just how much money the federal government spends on social programs and where it goes:

Programs once reserved for the truly poor and disabled now cover multitudes of people.

Obamacare expanded Medicaid, for example, to cover able-bodied, working-age adults.

About three-quarters of school lunches are now fully or partially subsidized.

Clearly, the welfare state problem is not failing to spend enough money. It’s getting poor people on the road to economic self sufficiency. What is AOC’s strategy to do that?
