It’s not just gas prices that are rising. The Farm Bureau recently reported that 70% of farmers can’t afford all their fertilizer needs. Here are a few policy drivers: the war in Iran (about one third of global fertilizer is shipped through the Strait of Hormuz), Biden’s phosphate tariffs, and regulatory/permitting policies that hamstring domestic production.
We’ve argued repeatedly that Trump must suspended the Biden-era tariffs on fertilizer to cut food costs here at home.
Why the administration hasn’t done that is a great mystery.
