We noted in Monday’s HOTLINE that America will need to at least triple the number of data centers by 2030 to retain our tech superiority, but expensive renewable energy requirements could be a major impediment.
President Trump used his State of the Union to announce that key tech companies have agreed to generate their own electricity rather than rely on the existing structure. Data centers will then have every incentive to drive down their own costs.
Alas, Democrats are conspiring to add a poison pill to the data center approval process. In Congress, Democratic Rep. Greg Casar of Texas wants to mandate that 75% of electricity produced by data centers be made from renewables by 2035 and 100% by 2040.
Democrats from state legislatures in Colorado, Illinois, New Jersey and New York have drafted similar green energy rules.
Naturally, these initiatives are being cheered on by the media and we almost laughed out loud when we read this delusional headline from a local Colorado NPR station:

How will requiring utilities to use “green” energy that typically costs twice as much per kilowatt of power than power from coal and natural gas lower energy bills?
