Texas will hold the first primary of the 2022 season next Tuesday, and progressives are determined to ensure party purity by ousting the last centrist in the House caucus.
Their target is Congressman Henry Cuellar from the Rio Grande and the most conservative Democrat left in the House.
Cuellar voted for stimulus spending but opposes higher taxes, the Green New Deal and Biden’s disastrous border policy.
Sylvia Bruni, the Democratic chairwoman in Laredo, is neutral in the primary but admits that among many voters in the district “there’s an assumption that if you’re a liberal they’re going to come after your wallet.”
If Cuellar loses, the Democrats will officially be a “donut” party: no middle. That would be great news for the Republicans and horrible news for the country.
