One of our high priorities at UP has been to ensure these spectrum sales that are critical to our 5G and 6G telecom network. Kudos to FCC Chairman Brendan Carr on a home run, approving a pair of transactions that will transfer spectrum from Echostar/DISH to AT&T and SpaceX.
These transactions will enable major upgrades to AT&T’s coverage, expansion of SpaceX’s direct-to-device services, and include stipulations that will ensure a robust build-out and continuation of the Boost Mobile brand.
As we had proposed, the FCC is requiring that $2.4 billion of the $40 billion sales to be placed in escrow to make sure contractors with legitimate claims for unpaid bills by DISH won’t get stiffed. This is a win-win for consumers, our tech and telecom industries, and the cell tower companies that are owed billions by EchoStar CEO Charlie Ergen.
