Ottawa, Canada’s capital, has been filled for a week with thousands of truckers and others protesting vaccine mandates, curfews and lockdowns and now we hear that a similar “Freedom Convoy” is coming to Washington D.C. on March 1. Workers of the world are uniting.
Thousands of people have donated millions of dollars via GoFundMe. Now the web-based fundraising platform has accused the truckers and protestors of promoting “violence and harassment” and has withheld $9 million raised for the truckers. It announced the money would go to charities of ITS choosing.
That prompted Elon Musk to go on Twitter to brand GoFundMe as “professional thieves.”
Musk wrote: “Rather than automatically refunding (donations) to the donors, they say they’re going to give it to groups of their own choosing. What a windfall for Black Lives Matter, Greenpeace and Planned Parenthood!”
And how is this for hypocrisy: GoFundMe supported the Antifa-influenced occupation of a Seattle neighborhood in 2020. That siege actually did involve lawlessness and violence but GoFundMe allowed its backers to raise money on its platform.
Musk’s message resonated and GoFundMe then reversed its decision due to “donor feedback.”
But GoFundMe has shown its true colors. Our advice: send your donations directly to the causes and organizations you support and stop using GoFundMe.
