The method the Labor Department uses to calculate inflation was slightly altered in a way that appears to have understated inflation. CTUP senior fellow EJ Antoni dug deep into the CPI number and found that in January the procedure was changed and more weight was placed on items in the economy with smaller price increases and less weight was assigned to categories with faster-growing prices. Using the old weighting, inflation is growing at more than 8% not 7.5%.
Have a nice day.
