For nearly a decade we’ve been shining a spotlight on the economic masochism of European and Canadian leaders who have capsized their industrial base by paying homage to climate change religiosity. Could it be after years of economic and industrial decline, these nations now see the errors of their ways? The WSJ reports that they may have finally woken up to the foolishness of spurning fossil fuels:

“Europe’s slow-walking of its climate measures is notable because the continent has long been at the vanguard of climate action. But its aggressive plans to transition away from fossil fuels are running up against concerns that the policies are stifling industry by pushing up energy prices.”

Companies such as Shell, BP, and Equinor have scaled back their renewable energy goals, says the Journal, “and doubled down on more profitable oil and gas.” And Canada’s very green prime minister, Mark Carney has scrapped the country’s consumer carbon tax.

These companies and elected officials have belatedly come to understand what Trump and others (including us at the HOTLINE) have known all along: the policies have extremely high costs for consumers – and no benefit.
