As we mentioned yesterday, the Left is cratering in the polls on almost every issue: the economy, taxes, crime, immigration, and so on.

They’re desperate for a game changer, and they think they’ve found one in a government shutdown. They know that for the past 40 years, Republicans have almost always taken the blame. So Chuck Schumer wants a budget stalemate, a shutdown of nonessential programs, and a compliant media to blame Trump.

The Senate Democrats latest scam is to filibuster any bill to fund the government that doesn’t repeal virtually all of the health care budget savings in President Trump’s One Big Beautiful Bill.  That bill saved hundreds of billions of dollars by taking illegal aliens and income-ineligible people off the Medicaid rolls, adding work requirements for non-disabled working-age adults to Medicaid, and expanding HSAs.  All popular measures.

President Trump correctly says no to these hostage-taking conditions.

Schumer is also demanding extension of emergency COVID health insurance subsidies that eliminated income caps and made taxpayers pay more than 90% of all Obamacare premiums.  This has allowed insurance premiums to skyrocket.

Next year, with the COVID credits expired, taxpayers will still be on the hook for about 80% of premiums (no wonder the insurance companies are all in), which is not enough for Schumer:
