Everyone knows that the multi-billion dollar California High-Speed rail line is one of the great boondoggles of all time. Gavin Newsom is trying to blame Trump for the train wreck that started long before Trump even entered the Oval Office, but now even CBS reports the real villain here:

UPs transportation expert Wendell Cox has almost single-handedly exposed the rampant fraud and cost overruns and has been on this case for many years. He wrote the definitive report on this boondoggle for us which was the final nail in the coffin.

The Trump Administration’s Department of Transportation (DOT) had taken away about $4 billion that had been granted the high speed rail authority.  DOT cited the “failure to lay any tracks after spending $15 billion over 16 years. Secretary of Transportation Sean Duffy said “federal dollars are not a blank check – they come with a promise to deliver results.”

The California High-Speed Rail Authority promptly sued the Department of Transportation “to stop Trump’s politically motivated attack on high-speed rail.” Governor Newsom characterized the withdrawal of federal funding as “a political stunt to punish California.”

In June California submitted a grant application for nearly $400 million. That should get a quick and easy NO from the Trump Administration.
