When this summer Andy Burnham replaced the hapless Keir Starmer as Britain’s Labour Party Prime Minister we held out a glimmer of hope that he would lead Britain out of its big government economic grinder.
Nope. In his latest speech to parliament he doubled down on higher taxes and blamed Britain’s problems on… Margaret Thatcher:
”From the 1980s, this country took a series of wrong turns. Political power was centralised, economic power privatised, the country deindustrialised, austerity followed, hollowing out councils and depriving them of the agency to act to reverse any of this… a failed economic model which does not trickle down much to places like theirs and instead allows wealth to be extracted and siphoned out.”
Ugh. When you don’t get it. You just don’t get it.
Britain’s most prodigious wealth creators hear this blather and head for the exits.
