Oops! The Antitrust Cops Just Kicked Hollywood Out of California

We love to say we told you so, after reading this New York Post headline:

California’s leftwing Attorney General Rob Bonta last month blocked the blockbuster $100 billion Paramount merger with Warner Brothers. We argued on these pages that this veto of the merger would be a critical blow to already-struggling Hollywood and that the union workers would come up the big losers. We just didn’t know it would happen so soon.

This week, Paramount owner David Ellison warned that he’s moving the company to Texas if the state doesn’t agree to settlement talks. He says the company will save $500 million a year in taxes by moving to a no-income tax state. (He must be an avid reader of the Hotline!). Also, the court system is much more pro-business than in California, so the merger is likely to happen after the move.

Bonta’s office denounced Paramount’s move, calling it “another attempt to blackmail the state into letting an illegal deal through.”

This man is a menace to society and one wonders how such an economic illiterate could ever be elected to one of the highest political offices in the state. No doubt he’s in line to be a future Calif. Governor.
