Yesterday, the Pennsylvania Senate voted 44 to 6 (overwhelmingly bipartisan) to advance a bill that expands access to educational scholarships for thousands of students across the commonwealth, and delivers tax relief to families and businesses. That’s great news given the teachers union wants to kill the school choice program altogether. We hope PA Governor Josh Shapiro, a Democrat who has shifted his position on school choice like a weather gage based on the political winds, signs the bill.
Our friends at the Commonwealth Foundation just updated their remarkable study on the size of the public education blob in the state. Students down and school bureaucracy up. No wonder the private and Catholic schools can deliver better student achievement at a lower cost.
