The Left was convinced that the Trump campaign’s efforts to win over Hispanic voters were crippled after the comedian at Trump’s Madison Square Garden rally before Election Day stupidly referred to Puerto Rico as a “floating island of garbage.”
But in the end, Kamala Harris only won the Hispanic vote by 53% to 45%, according to CNN and NBC exit polls. That was a huge drop from the 66% of Hispanics that President Biden won in 2020. He easily won Miami-Dade County, Florida, which has 69% Hispanic voters – only half of whom are Cubans.
As for Puerto Ricans, Osceola County, Florida has the largest Puerto Rican population by percentage of any county in the country – 26.7%. But Trump carried the county. He also won Cumberland County, New Jersey, which has the fourth-highest percentage of Puerto Ricans at 17.9%.
“There was an unambiguous massive swing with all Hispanic voters, including Puerto Ricans,” admits Matt Isbell, a Democratic political consultant.
