We’ve commented often that the most worrisome socio-economic trend in America is the large reduction in birth rates, which has put the U.S. well below replacement fertility. There’s no bullish economic future without kids.

There’s a great new report by Advancing America Freedom which finds that “the U.S. total fertility rate is holding near or just below the replacement level for three decades after the post-baby-boom decline of the early 1970s.  It has fallen to about 1.62 by 2023, which is near the lowest level on record.”  It is also half the birth rate of 60 years ago.

The places where children are disappearing fastest are blue/purple states (Vermont, the District of Columbia, Rhode Island, Oregon, and New Hampshire), while red states have the highest fertility rates (South Dakota, followed by Nebraska, Alaska, North Dakota, and Texas) – a point we’ve made previously.

The Democrats aren’t reproducing in part because their marriage rates are lower as well.

If these trends continue in 80 years, we calculate there will be 112 Democrats left in the United States. 😊
