Voters and businesses have moved on from the climate change apocalypse narrative, so now liberal local governments are turning to the courts with bogus lawsuits against energy companies.

Apparently, oil and gas companies are responsible for hurricanes, tornados, droughts, floods, forest fires, and even blizzards. If there’s bad weather in California, blame Exxon.

Usually in court if you sue for damages, you have to prove that the defendant is the CAUSE of damages. It’s obviously absurd for cities in California to make a case that their crops failed because of a driller in Midland, Texas.

The danger is that liberal courts could buy into this canard as a way to punish “big oil.”

Hold on: the same people on the left who are complaining about high gas prices are going to the courts to drive up the gas price via bogus court verdicts. They want to make energy companies the new tobacco industry. Except that cigarettes COST lives. Cheap and abundant oil saves lives.

The Supreme Court heard oral arguments in a case this week that could put a stop to all this, and the justices seemed to be leaning in that direction. Keep your fingers crossed.
