Climate change is SO yesterday, but no one bothered to tell the Democrats in Richmond.

As we’ve mentioned previously, new Virginia Governor Abigail Spanberger is pushing more than a dozen new taxes, the dumbest of which is a carbon dioxide tax that the Thomas Jefferson Institute calculates will cost Virginia homeowners and businesses $500 million a year. This is the price ratepayers will be charged to rejoin a 12 (blue) state coalition effort called the Regional Greenhouse Gas Initiative.

It’s pure virtue signaling. Even if you buy into every Al Gore apocalyptic prediction about the evils of CO2 emissions (we don’t), this tax won’t stop a single tornado, flood, or heat wave.  No single state can change global emissions. It’s as hapless a strategy as taking buckets to Virginia Beach and scooping water out of the sea to stop the rising oceans.

Ironically, Spanberger ran on making Virginia more affordable – apparently she wasn’t talking about monthly utility bills.
