President Trump wants to index cap gains for inflation. Good news. It turns out so do voters by more than a three to one margin. A McLaughlin Poll finds 62% support “indexing capital gains taxes for inflation so taxpayers are not penalized simply because prices rise.” Only 16% are opposed to the idea.
This would unlock hundreds of billions of dollars of locked up capital and redirect investment funds to higher value-added ventures. It would also allow seniors to sell their homes without a massive and unfair tax on the increased value of their home due to inflation.
McLaughlin also found “Voters strongly support increasing the capital gains exemption for homeowners to encourage older Americans to sell their homes and increase housing inventory for younger families.”
Just do it.
