Much of America is in a water disaster. Drought grabs headlines, but our friends at Kite & Key Media have produced a video that points out many states are facing a different, slow-motion clean water crisis: bursting pipes and aging infrastructure.

Six water pipes with an average age of 110 years have burst in Los Angeles in the last few weeks.. One in West Hollywood led to a 17 million gallon leak that destroyed or damaged 200 cars. Sunset Boulevard has only just now reopened.

Turning over water utility ownership or management to private companies would help end the infrastructure crisis.  One in six Americans already gets drinking water from privately owned, regulated utility systems. Bill Clinton’s EPA endorsed privatization as a way in which local governments could better meet environmental standards.
