Teacher unions are declaring the new omicron variant will likely mean that schools can’t reopen in January, the time when hospitalizations peaked this year.
In Britain, scores of schools and colleges are closing early for Christmas, in defiance of national government rules. The Guardian newspaper reports “school leaders in England are preparing for an extended switch to online learning in January, with many ensuring that pupils take laptops and textbooks home for the holidays.”
