Speaking of the green energy bust, the poor EV industry has shifted gears into reverse. The more politicians like Joe Biden and Euro greens bully people into buying them and companies into making them, the more the industry crashes.
The latest episode of this tale comes from Germany where the politicians commanded Porsche to build more EVs to save the planet. Porsche executives dutifully saluted and vowed that 80% of its new vehicle sales would be electric by 2030.
But now it’s shifted into reverse and insists sales will be dependent on consumer demand and how car technology improves. Porsche’s EV sales fell 51% in the first half of 2024.
Same old story that we’ve told about Ford Motor, General Motors, Mercedes-Benz, Volkswagen, Renault, and Aston Martin.
Meanwhile, Tesla’s stock has crashed due to big sales declines.
We have nothing against EVs. But force-feeding them to consumers through mandates before the technology is fully ready is going to create shortages of internal combustion vehicles and hurt the image and branding of EVs. Their insurance costs are high, minor bumps can lead to massive repair bills and people are getting stranded in the middle of nowhere when the battery gets drained. They keep searching for Pete Buttigieg’s mythical charging stations that don’t exist.
To paraphrase the title of the old Ralph Nader consumer book, most EVs are “Unready For Prime Time.”
