Just a few weeks ago, Graham Platner became an overnight sensation with leftist Democrats and was overwhelmingly nominated to be their candidate for the Senate in Maine. It was an overnight love affair.
Sen. Ruben Gallego (D-AZ) gushed: “This guy is an authentic man… He’s going to win this election.”
Then the Nazi tattoo-type baggage kept piling up and Dem’s chances of beating Susan Collins were trending below 50%.
After many weeks of Senate Democrats sweeping one after another Platner scandal under the rug (we recommend today’s WSJ lead editorial on Platner-mania), the bloom came off the rose.
Panic set in.
We smell a rat here – though this is just pure conjecture on our part. Is it just a coincidence that just as Platner’s crashing in the polls, out of nowhere a former left-leaning girlfriend comes forward with a he-said, she-said tale of Platner sexual misconduct? It’s the kind of accusation that he can’t possibly refute.
And poof, the Democrats’ Platner problem is so conveniently gone.
One day Platner is a male version of Taylor Swift, and the next, Dems sprint from him like he’s nuclear waste – or worse, brain-addled Joe Biden.
Now with the betting odds at 90% of Platner dropping out of the race, Democrats are MORE likely (60%) to win the Maine Senate race. They’ve traded up.
Funny how this has all turned out in the Dems’ favor.
To the left in America, all’s fair in love and war and most importantly winning elections. The Senate Dems like Bernie Sanders and Elizabeth Warren who fawned all over Platner should be ashamed of this whole sordid affair and should apologize. But they aren’t and they won’t.
