Silicon Valley is really becoming hopeless.
Last week, a group of US-based Apple employees called Apple Together, issued an open letter to CEO Tim Cook protesting his plan to have them go back to the office for three days a week. They said such a move is “only driven by fear” of making the company more diverse and inclusive.
The letter (and this is not a parody) read: “It will make Apple younger, whiter, more male-dominated, more neuro-normative, more able-bodied. In short, it will lead to privileges deciding who can work for Apple, not who’d be the best fit.”
It said that forcing people to come physically to work would advantage those who were born in the “right place,” were younger and had a stay-at-home spouse. They also complained that Cook was planning to drop the mask mandate at work and allow employees not to wear one.
“Stop treating us like school kids who need to be told when to be where and what homework to do,” the Apple Together members concluded.
That’s an ironic statement, of course, because these ARE the demands of entitled and pampered school kids. God forbid that Apple cave in to these crazies. And we say this even though some of your beloved editors of the Hotline are not “neuro-normative.”
