You truly won’t believe this story, but it tells you EVERYTHING about the Darth Vader education empire that has done so much to harm children.

We highlighted in yesterday’s HOTLINE the amazing $25 million (!) offer by Jeff and Janine Yass to give 500 students who reside in Philly districts that are shutting down 17 city schools a gift of $8,000 a year per student if they prefer to attend a superior Catholic or private school. The Yass Prize is giving the gift of learning to 500 low-income kids.

Hooray, right?

The reaction from the left has not exactly been gratitude, per the Philly Inquirer.

City Councilmember, Jamie Gauthier, said Yass “is exploiting the Board’s ill-advised decision to advance his crusade against public education.”

Gauthier called Yass “an opportunist” who wants to “plunder our public schools for their personal gain.”

No word yet on how this gift advances his “personal gain.”

Then there is Lisa Haver, a retired district teacher and a founder of the Alliance for Philadelphia Public Schools. She called the scholarship offer “dastardly.”

Then she complained: “To come and wave money in front of these young people who are facing a real loss is exploitative.”

Exploitation? Dastardly? For helping kids?

“Thank you” would have sufficed!
