We applaud President Trump for securing this handshake deal yesterday:

Google, Microsoft, Meta, Amazon, and several artificial intelligence companies signed a pledge at ​the White House on Wednesday to bear the cost of new electricity generation to power their data centers.

The agreement is meant ‌to help mitigate concerns that Big Tech’s data centers are driving up U.S. electricity costs for homes and small businesses at a time the administration of President Donald Trump is seeking to curb inflation.

“This means that the tech companies and the data centers will be able to get the electricity they need, all without driving up electricity costs for consumers,” ​Trump said at the pledge signing event.

This is especially critical because data center and AI energy demands are expected to double to quadruple over the next decade.

What should NOT be required are two mandates gaining steam in many blue states and cities. One is to require data centers and AI processing firms to pay higher rates than are charged to other users.

The other, as we reported a few days ago, is an insidious climate change requirement that tech firms must bring on line and use “green energy.” This is a sure way to drive UP costs for everyone, because wind and solar typically cost twice as much as nuclear, natural gas and clean coal.
