| 1) Now Can We PLEASE Stop Subsidizing Wind and Solar Power? As the polar vortex ripped through the Dakotas all the way south to the Mexican border in Texas – renewable energy was missing in action and fossil fuels (most notably coal) kept the grid operational. It should serve as a five-alarm warning of how foolhardy it would be for the U.S. to continue to shut down our most reliable energy sources: oil, gas, coal, and nuclear power. Wind and solar took a big blow, so now the left is recirculating its myth that fossil fuels require massive taxpayer subsidies. In psychology, this is called “projecting” – when you accuse someone else of deviant behavior that applies to yourself. In reality for every kilowatt of power generated, wind gets about 10 times more taxpayer subsidies and solar gets 50 to 100 times more handouts than fossil fuels.  A separate 2019 study by the Congressional Research Service found that fossil fuels account for 10 times as much energy and get half the tax subsidies as renewable energy.  Biden wants to write tens of billions of dollars more corporate welfare checks to Big Wind and Big Solar. We have a better idea: how about ending ALL energy subsidies, shutting down the Department of Energy, and let the free market choose our power sources. As we learned last week, it’s a matter of life and death. |
