Tomas Philipson

Philipson served from 2017-2020 within The White House as a Member, Vice Chairman, and Acting Chairman of The President’s Council of Economic Advisers. Additionally, he served as a health care advisor on several U.S. Presidential campaigns, was a scientific advisor to the House of Representatives 21st Century Cures and The Biden Cancer Initiative, appointed to the Key Indicator Commission of US Congress. In 2003-2004, he worked as a full-time senior economic advisor to the heads of the Food and Drug Administration and Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services.

Dr. Philipson is the Daniel Levin Chair of Public Policy Emeritus at The University of Chicago, where he had positions in the Policy School, the Department of Economics, and the Law School. While in academia, he received numerous worldwide research awards and was a two-time winner of the highest award of his field, the Arrow Award of The International Health Economics Association. Other awards include the Garfield Award for Economic Research of Research America, the Prêmio Haralambos Simeonidis from the Brazilian Economic Association, and the Milken Institute’s Distinguished Economic Research Award. During his past academic career, he was a fellow of multiple academic think tanks and non-profit organizations including The National Bureau of Economic Research, The Milken Institute, and American Enterprise Institute.

Dr. Philipson is a frequent contributor to popular media such as Forbes, The Economist, The Wall Street Journal, The New York Times and CNN, CBS, ABC, NBC, CBNC, Fox News, Fox Business, Newsmax, BBC, Bloomberg, and CSPAN.
Philipson obtained a B.A. in Mathematics from Uppsala University in Sweden, M.A. in Mathematics from Claremont Graduate School, and both an M.A. as well as a PhD from the Wharton School and The University of Pennsylvania.
