1) Joe Biden’s War Against the South In every speech these days Joe Biden keeps saying he doesn’t “see red states and blue states, just one America.” This claim has zero credibility because his economic agenda is tantamount to a declaration of war against the states of the South and Sunbelt regions. CTUP’s new study on the impact of the Biden economic plan finds that his agenda would clobber the southern states’ economies, redistributing more than $1.5 trillion over a decade to northeastern and other blue states. This is a deliberate strategy to stop the meltdown of blue-state America. The Biden strategy is to strangle states like Florida, Tennessee, Georgia, Texas, North Carolina, and Arizona with “progressive” policies that have already crippled the economies of states like CA, NJ, NY, and IL. Those latter batch of blue states have lost almost 4 million residents over the last decade to the more economically free states of the South. We’ve identified six Biden policies that undermine the South’s comparative advantage over blue-state America. 1. $15-an-hour federal minimum wage 2. Abolition of state right-to-work laws 3. Green new deal anti-fossil fuel policies 4. $500 billion federal bailout of blue states 5. Eliminate the cap on state and local tax (SALT) deductions on federal tax returns 6. Nationally mandated economic lockdown policies Virtually all of the southern and sunbelt states are right to work, whereas almost all of the big blue states are forced union states. Abolishing right to work and $15 minimum wage places all the costs on the low wage, low cost-of-living southern states. Imagine the job losses of a $15 minimum wage in Arkansas or Georgia! Similarly, the ban on fracking kills Texas, Oklahoma, Louisiana, and West Virginia – but has little impact on jobs in the Northeastern states that have already stupidly banned fracking. Below we show the state by state cost of Bidenomics: |
