Some 30 Democrats – or almost one in seven – are now retiring from the House of Representatives at the end of this year. It’s almost as if they’re trying to get out of the way of a coming anti-Biden tsunami.
One of the few moderates left in the Democratic House Caucus, Rep. Kathleen Rice of Long Island’s Nassau County, announced her retirement on Tuesday. Her seat went for Joe Biden by 12 points in 2020, but last year it voted to oust incumbent Democrats from the Nassau County executive and district attorney posts. The seat is viewed as highly competitive.
Republicans need a net five pickups in the House to take the gavel away from Nancy Pelosi next year. This now seems a virtual certainty.
