It’s not just California. Some other states are not far behind. We were surprised to see that Florida, despite its high elderly population, is well below California in healthcare spending and employment.

Healthcare reform was hard enough before the consolidation of providers into giant hospital systems made them the biggest employers in most legislative districts. Now they are the primary source of job growth in most states, too. Much of this growth is at taxpayers expense.
