Gun deaths were pretty stable for two decades, but then starting in around May of 2020 we see a huge upward spike. What happened? We think two possible explanations. First, Covid lockdowns wreaked havoc. Second, after the George Floyd riots, the defund the police movement, weakened law enforcement – especially in the big cities.
