Well, certainly it’s in the top five. Here’s the headline from Reason Magazine:
West Virginia Governor Patrick Morrisey proposes making his state the nation’s data center capital. Under his plan the tech companies would sign a contract to pay for all the power and water usage and any infrastructure upgrades necessary. These infrastructure projects would bring so many billions of dollars in tax revenue over 20 years that the tax revenues could pay for elimination of the state income tax.
It’s an ingenious three for one: thousands of jobs, billions of new investment capital, and no more income tax. West Virginia is the perfect place to do it. The state is underdeveloped, has plenty of energy, plenty of vacant land, plenty of available workers, and a pro-business political culture.
Why isn’t EVERY state doing this?
