Liberals in California have been trying for many years – without much success – to get residents to stop driving their cars here, there and everywhere. Here’s their latest harebrained scheme in their war against cars: make car tires illegal.
We kid you not. This week, five unelected California Energy Commission members unanimously adopted new rules that will make an estimated 70% of the tires currently sold in California illegal by 2033. You can’t drive a car without wheels.
What’s worrisome is that when California adopts expensive regulations like this, they sometimes become de facto national standards because of the size of its market. This means these looney restrictions could be coming soon to your state.
Goodyear warns the increased costs to consumers could run to the hundreds of dollars. That’s because most all-season replacement tires last roughly 65,000 miles. But the European-standard tires that would be mandated average 27,000 miles meaning consumers will have to replace them twice as often.
Wait! Aren’t these the same people who say if they get back power in Washington they will make things more affordable?
