Mail-in ballots are now being sent out in many states two months ahead of Election Day. The clock is ticking on whether the Trump administration’s effort to enhance ballot security will actually take effect this election year.

The U.S. Postal Service wants to require states to provide lists of mail-in voters and use federally reviewed ballot envelopes with unique barcodes for tracking. Some 20 blue states have sued saying the requirement is unconstitutional. If they can stall a final decision long enough, the status quo will prevail for this year’s midterms.

A federal judge in Massachusetts has imposed a temporary nationwide block. With North Carolina beginning to mail out its ballots last Friday and other states about to follow, the Trump DOJ is asking for an immediate decision by the Supreme Court.

The mail ballot tracking system is already routinely used by Amazon, Walmart, and other shipping companies to make sure the packages are going to the right address and person.

We’re not sure why liberals oppose a modern-day tracking system to ensure ballot security. But we have a sneaky suspicion why. It’s odd that the same pols who accuse Republicans of being threats to democracy, want such a flim-flam voting system with as few safeguards as possible.
