Regular readers of the Hotline know that we’ve been against government lockdowns, stay-at-home orders, school closures, and vaccine mandates from the start. Our attitude has always been the government should fully inform Americans of the risks associated with COVID and then educate them on the best mitigation strategies, and then let a free people make their own decisions.

Our recent State Report Card shows that from a health and economic standpoint, that strategy would have been far superior to the lockdowns model. That flawed strategy is still in place in China (where millions of residents of cities like Shanghai are imprisoned for weeks in their tiny, crowded apartments) and there is even talk of new restrictions in down cities in the USA.

So…we were thrilled when we read this front page headline in Monday’s Wall Street Journal.

The first line of the piece sums it up: “In the latest phase of the COVID-19 Pandemic, federal and local officials are telling people to decide for themselves how best to protect against the virus.”
