New York City Comptroller to Exxon: Sorry, You Can’t Leave

This is a desperate, almost laughable Hail Mary pass by New York’s leftist Comptroller, Mark Levine, to keep Exxon from moving its legal domicile from New Jersey to energy-friendly, low-tax Texas.

According to The Center Square, Mark Levine, a climate change warrior, wants Exxon’s shareholders “to reject the proposal to move its corporate offices to the Lone Star State” because the move “as well as its retail voting program, are not in the long-term interests of shareholders.”

Come again?

Few states snatch away shareholder profits as do New York and New Jersey. We would argue its actually a breach of fiduciary responsibility and “the long-term interests of shareholders” to STAY in the Northeast, where the taxes are higher, the regulatory environment is much thornier, and local and state officials want to sue energy companies for greenhouse gas emissions.

ExxonMobil Chair and CEO Darren Woods counters Levine, saying that Texas “has created a policy and regulatory environment that can allow the company to maximize shareholder value.”

Game. Set. Match.
