Oh No! The Millionaires Can’t Keep Up With the Billionaires

A headline from the WSJ yesterday:

The chart below gave us a bit of a chuckle. We used to worry about the gap between rich and poor. Now it’s the gap between the super-rich and the mere rich.

The average household in the top 0.1% has earnings of roughly $200 million.

The cutoff to climb into the top 1% is now roughly $1 million a year.

Somehow this is a problem that the rich are falling behind the super-rich. Doesn’t it say a lot about the affluence of the United States that it takes a lot more money to be in the top 1% and the top 0.1% than it did 10 or 20 years ago?

If the policy goal is to narrow this wealth gap, the only plausible solution that we can see is to immediately deport SpaceX CEO Elon Musk, Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang, and Google CEO Sundar Pichai. How dare they come to this great country of ours, create companies, and become multi-billionaires?

Once these scoundrels are gone we will have achieved much less inequality.
