This is a point we’ve been making for a long time, and now one of the smart Democrats, Rahm Emmanuel, is sounding like us:
“We’re the only country where you have to be rich enough to be a socialist. If you’re trying to be a party that recruits people, working class people that go paycheck to paycheck, socialists have been repulsing them.”
Emanuel is now a likely presidential candidate who believes that the leadership behind the Democratic Socialists of America is completely out-of-touch with the concerns of “normie voters.” In low-turnout primaries he says they’ve so far netted “those that are living in the brownstones in Park Slope Brooklyn or the struggling PhD student at Columbia.”
As for Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez’s recent gigg Rahm then issued this wise warning to his fellow Dems:
“You still have people running around saying open borders, free health care at the border, defund the police, Latinx, etc. AOC has learned it, kudos for her. I just don’t think everybody else has.”
